Don't Read Self Help Books | nanscapes.com
Somebody recently said to me that people should stop reading self help books and should just get on with achieving what they want to achieve. For a few seconds, I did wonder if he was right. Do we inherently know what we need to do to achieve great things? If we just acted, could we take our lives to the next level? In some respects, I think he?s right! Action is the key, you?ve got to do this for yourself, not just read about it. So where is the balance and where do self help books fit into the picture.
From my own experience, and therefore one of the reasons I wrote a book about personal development, is the short cut they provide. I agree most people have the capability to do, but where do you start and how do you avoid getting it wrong and making costly mistakes. Self Help Books contain other people?s wisdom, experience and often detail on their journeys. So, you must take your own journey, but learn from others to make that journey easier.
Learning is one the key threads of our lives, because we never stop learning. One of my favourite sayings is ?A Clever Man Learns From His Mistakes?, but an even better expression is that ?A Wise Man Learns From the Mistakes of Others?. That?s what self help books do for you. They provide the learning to ensure you get it right. To many people believe that life is a struggle, that you have to work hard to be successful, that nothing comes easily. So although I agree that you do have to work hard, it doesn?t have to be hard work. If you find something you really enjoy, or ?The Thing that makes your heart sing?, then work can become pleasurable. Therefore working hard becomes pleasurable, and already your journey is easier.
Again, this is where self improvement books can help. Using many of the exercises authors of such literature provide, can help you identify what that ?thing? is. It?s a form of coaching or help from somebody who is totally detached from your situation and can be completely objective. Self Help Books and these sorts of exercises really get you to look inside yourself and identify who you want to be, rather than letting life dictate what happens to you. Another benefit that comes from Self Help Books, is inspiration. We have to believe we can achieve, or we won?t even try. These books through the stories and experiences that I mentioned early, often help us see through the challenges of today, and enable us to believe in what might be.
You can change everything, it does require work and self help books do have a part to play. So do read books to help you grow and never listen to the nay sayers who say don?t. It?s usually just their way of rationalizing their own existence and lack of achievement. Learning is key to our lives, so learn more. Get hungry for information, but most importantly, make sure you act upon what you learn.

People have been purchasing self help books like it is already the end of everything. I do not know if you have noticed that. Individuals have been doing this for the last twenty years. This fact made me wonder how people survived all those years. It looked like there was always a guidebook for each and every possible lifestyle, situation, and problem for people. I do acknowledge the fact that sometimes we need some kind of direction in our lives. We need this help most especially when everything seems to go wrong and we do not know what to do about the situation anymore. What I do not perfectly understand is why people have always been so dependent with self help books. What is behind these self help books??
I am not really a believer of self help books. What I know about them is that there are good ones and there are also worthless ones. What I am surprised about is that the ones that seem to be useless are the ones considered to be the best sellers. Well, truth is, it is definitely a good thing that people can rely from self help books whenever they need them. Other than depending too much from self help books, you can also use your common sense in these kinds of situation. Believe me or not, you do not necessarily need self help books that much. You have your brain. You can try giving yourself a chance to think. You can try asking yourself about what is going on and what possible things you can do before jumping to those self help books.
I have purchased a number of self help books a couple of years ago. After reading all those books, it saddened me that I did not get anything that I did not know. That fact made me wonder why there are a lot of people who completely believed and relied on those self help books. It made me think that most individuals who bought the books were just hoping to get some ideas and guidelines, but still ended like me. All of us got the same typical ideas about life. There are still some brilliant self help books out there that anyone can get if they really need to acquire help. That is a reality! Basically, all I want to say is we should be knowledgeable about our capacities and use them first right before being so dependent on self help books.
In my own opinion, we should only depend on self help books if we are dealing with some people who are having issues with drugs, alcohol, or any other types of addiction. We can also buy those self help books if we are with a person who is having an illness or is dealing with a disease. I say these things because these are the types of situation where in we are not exactly definite about what is going on. Special circumstances like these require knowledge in order for us to act about the truth. This is true when we do not know what is causing the illness of our family, or friend and we also need to know what we can do to lessen the risks of the disease or even try to alleviate the pain that they are going through.?
